Our Mission

N.E.W. Latinx Rising 501(c)3 is committed to empower our local Latinx community, especially in education. We advocate for policies and practices that advance equity and inclusion for our students. Our non-profit is rooted in the enduring legacies of our Latinx ancestors.  

Our History

As long serving members in the field of education, we are prepared to be an additional resource for our communities. We will foster growth in educational attainment, socioeconomic mobility, political and social representation, self- determination and civic engagement.

Our organization came together in the summer of 2020 and launched publicly on October 15, 2020. We were prepared to mobilize quickly because Gratzia Villarroel, PhD, Patricia Agee-Aguayo, MSE and Amanda Garcia, MA, have deep roots in Green Bay and have been advocating for Hispanic and Latinx folks in the area for decades, especially, in elementary and higher education.

We came together in the summer of 2020 because education is highly valued among us and we strongly believe there is an urgency to include diverse voices in the conversations to address equity and accessibility across racial and ethnic communities in our region in northeast Wisconsin. We are strongly committed to just and equitable practices for Latinx, Black, Indigenous, Asian and all historically marginalized communities. Injustice against any community harms our society in the present, and our children endure the consequences into the future. We wish to be an active presence in our communities because our commitment to be better and dream big is at the heart of our mission.

Celebrating los logros, the accomplishments, of Latinx families is what brings us joy. We are committed to work for and with our communities to further unite Latinx leaders in our fight, nuestra lucha, toward a more inclusive and vibrant state for all.

In the words of Dolores Huerta: “Every moment is an organizing opportunity, every person a potential activist, every minute a chance to change the world.” ¡La lucha sigue!
